One gets worried when a large number of patients have numerous skin diseases and health issues that are caused by cosmetic surgery. Risks and side effects of various types of body and skin transplants including Botox injections are the major reasons behind such illnesses. However, a large number of medical institutes also advocate about the benefits of Botox injections inside your body. Moreover, medical institutes with a good reputation like the Miami Center for Dermatology can help minimize such outcome risks of cosmetic surgeries and their side effects. To know more about the benefits of Botox you may read ahead. Curing facial wrinkles – A major advantage that Botox injections provide is it helps you look better. You can have them injected in the wrinkled areas of your face (usually forehead and areas near the mouth) and soon after the muscle potentially relax and swell making your outer skin smooth and wrinkle free. Hence you’re looking younger and more beautiful once again. Cervical dystonia – is a major issue among middle aged people. Cervical dystonia is a neurological disorder of the muscles in your neck that causes extreme pain and the inability to move your neck. These muscle contractions can be completely cured with Botox. The injection of the Clostridium botulinum paralyses certain muscles, reducing pain and increasing movement because of the botulism bacteria inside the neck. Hyperhidrosis – Hyperhidrosis is another dermatological issue which Botox cures. This medical condition consists of excessive perspiration from the body. An abnormal amount of sweat keeps coming out of the skin which is not required to control the body temperature. Botox injections cure such facial sweating, blushing problems and are helpful in reducing severe sweating, especially in the underarms. Strabismus – Commonly known to the people as squint eye or crossed eye conditions; Strabismus is a very commonly found problem in people today. The non aligned eyes eventually become a problem with eye sight and obviously do not help your appearance. This problem also happens due to the lack of the coordination of eye muscles inside. This can be cured through Botox injections on the eye muscles. Blepharospasm – Some people have an unavoidable habit of uncontrolled blinking. This is a neurological and a muscular disorder that can be cured through the use of Botox. There are many dermatology centers and institutions like the Miami Center for Dermatology, which provide you with the benefits of Botox or the cure or treatment of your illness. Having highly experienced professionals and safe surgical applications, the Miami Center for Dermatology is an institution worth depending on.

The post Botox Benefits – Botox Injections in Miami Center Dermatology appeared first on Miami Center for Dermatology.

To get rid of the growing infected cells of skin cancer in one’s body there are many treatments searched out by the dermatologists. The best skin cancer treatment Miami is “Radiation Therapy”. The radiation therapy can be used in all the branches of skin cancer, to cure them. Gentle low-energy photons are used by the dermatologist to destroy the tissues which cause skin cancer. The radiation aims the tumor as well as the skin which it surrounds. The patient’s skin is covered with the shields, which helps to protect the skin. The radiation therapy is a very long process which takes many weeks. The best skin cancer treatment in Miami cures the tissues deeply. If the radiation therapy is done properly by the doctors then it can have only a little scarring if any. The therapy is best suited for those patients whose skin cancer is spread all over their body in small patches. Radiation therapy is an amazing alternative when it is risky to do surgeries. If any patient suffers from residual cancer in their tissue then radiation can be given to them after their surgery. Dermatologists combine chemo radiation with radiation for healing the tumors of advance stages. Radiation therapy is used for the cancers which are high in risks. The cancers which have spread to the areas of nerves or lymph nodes. The radiation after the treatment may cause some wounds to weep, reactions like- burn and will pain a lot. You are immediately asked to talk to your doctor when you experience such kind of signs. When times will move on, your treated skin will become smooth and scarlike and the color of the radiated area will be light from the actual skin. Your normal skin can also be infected and behave like radiated skin. After the treatment is done, patients can slowly-slowly start to live their normal life as they use to live it earlier. There is very low risk of cancers to take place second time when they are first treated by the radiation. The radiation therapy is also used to control the up growing tissues cell of cancer in the body. The radiation is worked by damaging the present DNA which is open to the tissues that are leading to the cellular death. It is the best skin cancer treatment in Miami which takes some time but cure the skin cancer completely. Remember the SRT-100 is the latest advance and best skin cancer treatment in Miami and the whole world. It is non-surgical and that is one of the best perks of this radiotherapy treatment.

The coming of various plastic surgeries can help you retain your looks or even make you look younger and better than you really are. As a result there exist a large number of cosmetic procedures and methods that enhance your beauty. Botox injections are amongst the most common forms to improve your looks. Almost every passing day, you come across at least one advertisement of a company that sells Botox injections in Miami. Type ‘Botox’ on the search engine and you can get thousands of results which either tell you about how Botox removes facial wrinkles or from where can you get Botox injections for you self. Botox injections in Miami Center for Dermatology is not behind in the Botox race, as a matter a fact we buy directly from the manufacture passing the saving to our customers. Miami Center for Dermatology Advanced Center for Cosmetic Dermatology in Miami can provide you with an injection of Botox to your skin. To explain to you in simple words, Botox is a substance made with the help of a protein and a neurotoxin called the Botulinum toxin. This toxic substance – Botulinum toxin is considered to be very harmful to humans and animals and is produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. If increased in inadequate quantities Botulinum toxin can cause serious damage to the stomach and is the major cause behind botulism. However, scientists and doctors have researched well upon the bacteria and its medical effects. They have successfully derived drugs with adequate quantities of this bacterium which in turn cure wrinkles and a few other neurological diseases and illnesses. Now let’s focus of the Botox injections that you hear about every day. These injections insert very active substances of the Botulinum toxin into the facial muscles which in turn helps them to relax and smoothen up a little hence reducing the wrinkles on your face. You need to be regular at giving yourself these injections in order to keep you skin from being wrinkled again. The effect of an injection will start showing itself within 4 to 7 days and will continue itself for at 3 weeks or even a month. However there have been a huge number of controversies and risks associated with these injections. So you must make sure that you are ready to take all these risks of damage to your skin and health before applying the injection to your skin. Usually Botox injections are associated with swellings, puffy eyes and skin, painful bruises and the like. If the side effects exceed it might even result in skin cancer and paralysis. If you have additional questions please call us and Ask for our Cosmetic Specialist Jessica or you can simply fill out the form on this page. We hope to hear from you soon.

The post Botox Injections in Miami – Miami Dermatologist Dr. Longwill appeared first on Miami Center for Dermatology.

What is the skin? The skin is the largest organ of the body. It covers the internal organs and protects them from injury, serves as a barrier to germs such as bacteria, and helps prevent fluid loss. The skin helps control body temperature and gets rid of certain body wastes. Cells in the skin communicate with the brain and allow temperature, touch, and pain sensations. How many people get skin cancer? Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. It accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the United States. More than 3.5 million cases of basal and squamous cell skin cancer are diagnosed in this country each year. Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, will account for more than 76,600 cases of skin cancer in 2013. What are basal and squamous cell skin cancers? These types of skin cancer are classified as non-melanomas to set them apart from the more serious type of skin cancer, melanoma. They usually start in the basal cells or squamous cells, which is how they get their names. These cells are found at the base of the outer layer of the skin. Most basal and squamous cell cancers develop on sun-exposed areas of the skin, like the face, ear, neck, lips, and the backs of the hands. Depending on the type, they can be fast or slow growing, but they rarely spread to other parts of the body. Basal cell or squamous cell cancers can be cured if found and treated early. What is melanoma skin cancer? Melanoma is a cancer that begins in the melanocytes – the cells that produce the skin coloring or pigment known as melanin. Melanin helps protect the deeper layers of the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Melanoma is almost always curable when it is found in its very early stages. Although melanoma accounts for only a small percentage of skin cancer, it’s far more dangerous than other skin cancers and causes most skin cancer deaths. Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, will account for more than 76,600 cases of invasive skin cancer in 2013. It accounts for more than 9,000 of the 12,000-plus skin cancer deaths each year. The overall 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 91%. For localized melanoma, the 5-year survival rate is 98%; survival rates for regional and distant stage diseases are 62% and 15%, respectively. About 84% of melanomas are diagnosed at a localized stage. You can read more in our document called Melanoma Skin Cancer online, or call us for a free copy. Other types of skin cancer There are a few rare types of skin cancer such as keratoacanthomas, Merkel cell carcinoma, skin lymphoma, Kaposi sarcoma, skin adnexal tumors, and sarcomas. These are all non-melanoma types. You can find out more about these and other non-melanoma cancers in our document called Skin Cancer: Basal and Squamous Cell online, or call us for details. What are the risk factors for skin cancer? Risk factors for non-melanoma and melanoma skin cancers include: Unprotected and/or excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation (sunlight or tanning booths) Pale skin (easily sunburned, doesn’t tan much or at all, natural red or blond hair) Occupational exposures to coal tar, pitch, creosote, arsenic compounds, or radium You or other members of your family have had skin cancers Multiple or unusual moles Severe sunburns in the past What are the signs and symptoms of skin cancer? Skin cancer can be found early, and both doctors and patients play important roles in finding skin cancer. If you have any of the following symptoms, tell your doctor. Any change on your skin, especially in the size or color of a mole, growth, or spot, or a new growth (even if it has no color) Scaliness, oozing, bleeding, or a change in the way a bump or nodule looks The spread of pigmentation (color) beyond its border, such as dark coloring that spreads past the edge of a mole or mark A change in sensation, such as itchiness, tenderness, or pain Can skin cancer be prevented? The best ways to lower the risk of skin cancer are to avoid long exposure to intense sunlight and practice sun safety. You can still exercise and enjoy the outdoors while using sun safety at the same time. Here are some ways to be sun safe: Avoid direct exposure to the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Teach children the shadow rule: if your shadow is shorter than you, the sun’s rays are at their strongest. Seek shade, especially in the middle of the day when the sun’s rays are strongest. Follow the Slip! Slop! Slap!® and Wrap! rules: Slip on a shirt: Cover up with protective clothing to guard as much skin as possible when you are out in the sun. Choose comfortable clothes made of tightly woven fabrics that you cannot see through when held up to a light. Slop on sunscreen: Use sunscreen and lip balm with broad spectrum protection and a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen (about a palmful) to unprotected skin at least 30 minutes before outdoor activities. Reapply every 2 hours and after swimming, toweling dry, or sweating. Use sunscreen even on hazy or overcast days. Slap on a hat: Cover your head with a wide-brimmed hat, shading your face, ears, and neck. If you choose a baseball cap, remember to protect your ears and neck with sunscreen. Wrap on sunglasses: Wear sunglasses with100% UVA and UVB absorption to provide optimal protection for the eyes and the surrounding skin. Sunscreen doesn’t protect from all UV rays, so don’t use sunscreen as a way to stay out in the sun longer. Follow these practices to protect your skin even on cloudy or overcast days. UV rays travel through clouds. Avoid other sources of UV light. Tanning beds and sun lamps are dangerous. They also damage your skin.

There are two particularly important substances — collagen and hyaluronic acid — that play important roles in keeping facial skin looking smooth and supple. Collagen is a protein that provides skin with structural support, while hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume. As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin diminish, the skin loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear, like those “parentheses” lines around your nose and mouth. Other lines, like glabellar lines (the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows which often look like the number “11″), are formed by repeated and involuntary contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows. As the skin becomes less elastic, excessive contraction of these muscles may cause visible, deep wrinkles between the eyebrows to form, even when the face is relaxed. As a world leader in medical aesthetics, Allergan is deeply committed to theScience of Rejuvenation™ — that is, to developing and delivering high quality, science-based aesthetic solutions and experiences. Allergan is the only company with a global facial aesthetics franchise offering aesthetic specialty physicians and their patients the most comprehensive array of innovative aesthetic products. Allergan’s Total Facial Rejuvenation™ portfolio is where science and aesthetics meet. The portfolio includes BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA), an injectible to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines – the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows that look like an “11″ – in adult women and men aged 18 to 65, and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers including the JUVÉDERM® dermal filler gel family of products, the first and only hyaluronic acid dermal fillers clinically proven to last for up to one year. It also includes advanced, anti-aging physician-dispensed products such as VIVITÉ®, M.D. FORTÉ® and PREVAGE®MD, which contains idebenone, the most powerful antioxidant available in a skin care product today. Indication BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary). IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic: Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months. Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice (dysphonia), trouble saying words clearly (dysarthria), loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing. There has not been a confirmed serious case of spread of toxin effect when BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used at the recommended dose to treat frown lines. The dose of BOTOX® Cosmetic is not the same as, or comparable to, another botulinum toxin product. Serious and or immediate allergic reactions have been reported. These reactions include itchy rash, swelling, and shortness of breath. Tell your doctor or get medical help right away if you experience any such symptoms, further injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic should be discontinued. Do not take BOTOX® Cosmetic if you: are allergic to any of the ingredients in BOTOX® Cosmetic (see Medication Guide for ingredients); had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as Myobloc® or Dysport®; have a skin infection at the planned injection site. Tell your doctor about all your muscle or nerve conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease], myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome as you may be at increased risk of serious side effects including severe dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and respiratory compromise (difficulty breathing) from typical doses of BOTOX®Cosmetic. Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, including if you have:plans to have surgery; had surgery on your face; weakness of forehead muscles, such as trouble raising your eyebrows; drooping eyelids; any other abnormal facial change; are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (It is not known if BOTOX® Cosmetic can harm your unborn baby); are breast-feeding or plan to breastfeed (It is not known if BOTOX® Cosmetic passes into breast milk). Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins and herbal products. BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause loss of strength or general muscle weakness, or vision problems. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities. Other side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic include: dry mouth, discomfort or pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, neck pain, and eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids, swelling of your eyelids, and dry eyes.

Acne is a skin condition that causes pimples or “zits.” This includes whiteheads, blackheads, and red, inflammed patches of skin (such as cysts). Acne occurs when tiny holes on the surface of the skin become clogged. These holes are called pores. Each pore opens to a follicle. A follicle contains a hair and an oil gland. The oil released by the gland helps remove old skin cells and keeps your skin soft. When glands produce too much oil, the pores can become blocked. Dirt, bacteria, and cells build up. The blockage is called a plug or comedone. If the top of the plug is white, it is called a whitehead. If the top of the plug is dark, it is called a blackhead. If the plug breaks open, swelling and red bumps occur. Acne that is deep in your skin can cause hard, painful cysts. This is called cystic acne. Acne is most common in teenagers, but anyone can get acne, even babies. Hormonal changes may cause the skin to be more oily. Acne tends to run in families. It may be triggered by: Hormonal changes related to puberty, menstrual periods, pregnancy, birth control pills, or stress Greasy or oily cosmetic and hair products Certain drugs (such as steroids, testosterone, estrogen, and phenytoin) High levels of humidity and sweating Research does not show that chocolate, nuts, and greasy foods cause acne. However, diets high in refined sugars may be related to acne. Acne commonly appears on the face and shoulders. It may also occur on the trunk, arms, legs, and buttocks. Findings include: Blackheads Crusting of skin bumps Cysts Papules (small red bumps) Pustules Redness around the skin eruptions Scarring of the skin Whiteheads Your doctor can diagnose acne by looking at your skin. Testing is usually not needed. SELF-CARE Steps you can take to help your acne: Clean your skin gently with a mild, nondrying soap (such as Dove, Neutrogena, Cetaphil, CeraVe, or Basics). Remove all dirt or make-up. Wash once or twice a day, including after exercising. However, avoid scrubbing or repeated skin washing. Shampoo your hair daily, especially if it is oily. Comb or pull your hair back to keep the hair out of your face. What NOT to do: Try not to squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples. Although it might be tempting to do this, it can lead to skin infections and scarring. Avoid wearing tight headbands, baseball caps, and other hats Avoid touching your face with your hands or fingers. Avoid greasy cosmetics or creams. Take off make-up at night. Look for water-based or “noncomedogenic” formulas. Noncomedogenic products have been tested and proven not to clog pores and cause acne. If these steps do not clear up the blemishes, try over-the-counter acne medications. You apply these products directly to your skin. They may contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid. They work by killing bacteria, drying up skin oils, or causing the top layer of your skin to peel. They may cause redness or peeling of the skin. A small amount of sun exposure may improve acne a little, but mostly it just hides the acne. However, too much exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet rays is not recommended because it increases the risk for skin cancer. MEDICINES FROM YOUR HEALTH CARE PROVIDER If pimples are still a problem, a health care provider can prescribe stronger medications and discuss other options with you. Antibiotics may help some people with acne: Oral antibiotics (taken by mouth) such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, erythromycin, trimethoprim, and amoxicillin Topical antibiotics (applied to the skin) such as clindamycin, erythromycin, or dapsone Creams or gels applied to the skin may be prescribed: Retinoic acid cream or gel (tretinoin, Retin-A) Prescription formulas of benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid Topical azelaic acid For women whose acne is caused or made worse by hormones: A pill called spironolactone may help Birth control pills may help in some cases, though they may make acne worse Minor procedures or treatments may also be helpful: A laser procedure called photodynamic therapy may be used. Your doctor may also suggest chemical skin peeling, removal of scars by dermabrasion, or removal, drainage, or injection of cysts with cortisone. People who have cystic acne and scarring may try a medicine called isotretinoin (Accutane). You will be watched closely when taking this medicine because of its side effects. Pregnant women should NOT take Accutane, because it causes severe birth defects. Women taking Accutane must use two forms of birth control before starting the drug and enroll in the iPledge program. Your doctor will follow you on this drug and you will have regular blood tests. Acne usually goes away after the teenage years, but it may last into middle age. The condition often responds well to treatment after 6 – 8 weeks, but it may flare up from time to time. Scarring may occur if severe acne is not treated. Some people, especially teenagers, can become very depressed if acne is not treated.

Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds – like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth. Using a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® XC is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds. Read on for more details about how JUVÉDERM® XC makes those parentheses disappear: 1 Understanding Where Wrinkles Form Your skin consists of two layers known as the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, acts as the skin’s primary defense against the environment. The dermis, or innermost layer of the skin, is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network. Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin. 2 Our Skin’s Natural Moisturizer Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule. Much like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. In this way, Hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body’s internal moisturizer. But, as we age, HA diminishes, which contributes to the presence of lines and folds. JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to diminish wrinkles and nasolabial folds. 3 Experiencing Rejuvenation JUVÉDERM® XC dermal filler is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment for nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles. Using a fine needle, your healthcare professional eases JUVÉDERM® XC under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis. This adds volume and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and nasolabial folds instantly. While there are a variety of hyaluronic acid fillers, JUVÉDERM® XC is uniquely formulated. A next generation HA filler, JUVÉDERM® XC uses a manufacturing process called HYLACROSS™ technology. HYLACROSS™ gives JUVÉDERM® XC its special smooth-gel structure that holds up over time. That’s why JUVÉDERM® XC is the first smooth-consistency HA gel and the only HA filler that’s FDA approved* to last up to one year with only one treatment.†

The post How does JUVÉDERM® XC Work? appeared first on Miami Center for Dermatology.
