What Are Early Signs of Skin Cancer You Should Be Cautious Of?

Continual exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays can eventually cause wrinkles and damage to the skin’s elastin fibers. As these tissues become more damaged, your skin begins to sag, bruise easily, and take longer to heal. Eventually, your skin can lose its immune function and lesions can start to appear. Many times these lesions are benign and easy to remove, but other times they can turn out to be cancerous.   • Farmer’s Lip: Usually appearing on the lower lip, this condition causes roughness on the lips and scaly patches. It can also create swelling and more prominent lip lines.
  • Moles: A mole by is nature is a benign growth of cells that give skin its color. A mole that is potentially cancerous is characterized by different colors, an irregular shape, being larger than a pencil eraser. Since most moles appear during childhood, speak to your dermatologist if you are seeing them emerge as an adult.
  • Cutaneous Horns: This growth appears to be funnel-shaped, almost like a horn. It is only several millimeters in size and is made out of keratin, which is the same protein that your nails are composed of.
  • Solar Keratosis: These are small, scaly patches that appear on the hands, head, and neck. They are also made out of keratin. It is recommended you see a doctor so they can be treated before possibly becoming cancerous over time.
