Miami Laser Hair Removal
Kiss your razor goodbye. Toss the tweezers, Lose the wax.
The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photo thermolysis (SPTL). At the Miami Center for Dermatology, we understand the tedious and time-consuming chore of having to frequently shave. Dr. Longwill and her staff offer Miami Laser Hair Removal treatments for patients who want to reduce the amount of hair growth on their body.
How Miami Laser Hair Removal Works
No matter what area of your body you’re looking to de-hair, Miami laser hair removal can help. In a treatment that lasts just a matter of minutes, hair follicles are destroyed with a minimum amount of discomfort. Using a beam of highly concentrated energy, areas of hair are targeted and removed. The energy from the laser is attracted to the hair pigmentation and absorbed similarly to a dark piece of clothing. Consequently, laser hair removal works the best on individuals possessing dark, coarse hair with a fair complexion, though those with a different combination can still achieve excellent results.
Miami laser hair removal works by matching specific wavelengths of light and pulse duration to obtain the most optimal effect on targeted tissue areas without affecting the surrounding tissues. Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark targeted matter, or melanin, in the area that causes hair growth, while not heating the rest of the skin. This dark target matter or chromophore can be naturally-occurring or artificially introduced.
FAQs About Laser Hair Removal
Areas Treated For Hair Removal
We can remove hair from most parts of the body, including the face, legs, arms, chest, back and even sensitive areas like underarms or bikini.
What Do Hair Removal Treatments Feel Like?
Many patients compare the sensation of the laser’s pulse to the snap of a rubber band. Over the course of 1-3 weeks after the hair removal procedure, the hair will begin to fall away. Though several treatments are often needed to generate the desired outcome of a patient, instantaneous results can be seen after the hair removal treatment, demonstrating just how effective even the initial procedure can be. With each treatment that you undergo, you will see progressive results with fewer and fewer returning hairs.
It may seem like once you start to see the results that you’re seeking that you should stop, but quite to the contrary, it is important to finish the treatment regimen as the finalizing the treatment will display the highest percentage of permanent hair reduction.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most areas require 5-9 treatments, but the number of treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as hair thickness, the area size, and hair growth cycle. All laser systems work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments will be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.
What Happens After The Treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and tender. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and will take approximately 2 weeks to fall out. Between treatments, you should not wax or pluck your hair, but you may shave as frequently as you wish.
Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?
The beauty of our technology is that it effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. As with all medical procedures, there is a slight risk that will be discussed at your consultation.
Can Anyone Have Laser Hair Removal?
No laser or light-based system can treat blonde, white, red or gray hair since there is no melanin to absorb the light.
