Treatment for Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic Dermatitis is more commonly known as “dandruff” in adults or “cradle cap” in infants. This skin condition causes dry white flaking or scaling, mild redness and itching. The scalp is more commonly affected than the face, but sometimes both will be present. The exact cause is not known, but condition may be initiated by stress
, fatigue, hormones, or weather changes. Seborrheic Dermatitis can run in the family and is present if scalp has excess oil. Seborrheic Dermatitis doesn’t affect your overall health, but it can be uncomfortable and cause embarrassment when it develops on visible parts of your body.
It isn’t contagious, and it’s not a sign of poor personal hygiene. Symptoms may appear around the navel, groin, buttocks, below breasts, under arms and legs, and in the middle of the chest. Seborrheic Dermatitis tends to recur, but you may be able to manage flare-ups by recognizing its signs and symptoms and by using a combination of self-care steps and over-the-counter (nonprescription) medications as directed by your dermatologist at the Miami Center for Dermatology. Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatment can be shampoos containing zinc, salicylic acid or tar can relieving mild cases on the scalp. With severe cases on the face will require stronger topical medications.
