Spring Reveal: Say Goodbye to “Bacne” with a Body Peel

Spring has already kicked into high gear here in South Florida, which means our daily temperatures are well into the 80s! With summer activities and attire (like shorts and bikinis) already on their way, you’re probably thinking about that area of your body that you’re insecure about. Maybe it’s acne on your back or stretch marks on your stomach. Whatever you’re insecure about, you have options for improving that area —and one of our favorite options is the body peel.

What’s a Body Peel?

A body peel utilizes an intensive, chemical exfoliating treatment to target stubborn acne, marks, scars, and more. Put simply, a body peel is the same as a peel for your face, but more potent, to target the skin imperfections on your body. Your body’s skin is tougher than the skin on your face, so it often requires more powerful exfoliants to get rid of dead skin cells and more moisturizing ingredients to really lock in hydration.

Here at the Miami Center for Dermatology, we particularly use the VI Peel Body on our patients who want to have smoother, more even skin on specific areas of the body. The VI Peel Body is the first and only professional grade body peel for all skin types and tones. It features a unique blend of AHAs, TCA, and conditioning agents.

Because this skin peel utilities chemical exfoliants, our staff never uses harsh scrubs or rough movements to rid your skin of its dead layer. Safe for Fitzpatrick skin types I-VI, this painless body peel addresses multiple conditions, is safe for all body parts, easy to use, and will show visible peeling post-treatment—just like peels for the face. The peeling will happen naturally and painlessly, and the treatment is completely non-invasive.

Just like chemical peels for the face, body peels can help with acne, texture, sun damage and other imperfections on your body’s skin.

How Does it Work? | Full-Body Chemical Peel

The VI body peel treatments provide anti-aging benefits, stimulating collagen and increasing cellular turnover. This treatment helps address troubled areas to reveal smoother, more radiant skin in just one treatment, achieving a more youthful look. We recommend a body peel for patients who want to target skin concerns such as:

  • Hyperpigmentation and dark spots
  • Body acne
  • Surgical scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Keratosis pilaris

The skin on your body is 2-3 times as thick as the skin on your face. VI Peel has created a unique proprietary ingredient complex with potent actives that go beyond the reach of traditional topical products alone.

This skin peel uses four chemical exfoliants: Glycolic acid exfoliates the dead surface cells on your skin, lactic acid hydrates and lightens dark spots, and trichloroacetic acid penetrates the skin to target tenure, pigment, acne, and wrinkles, and finally, mandelic acid suppresses hyperpigmentation and reduces oil production.

If you struggle with acne on your back, also known as “bacne”, a body peel can absolutely help clear up those breakouts and prevent future ones from forming. If you struggle with texture or acne in multiple areas of your body, consider a full-body chemical peel.

However, we advise patients not to take up that option in the summertime, as you’re likely going to wear shorts, go to the beach, and generally be more exposed to the sun in the summer months. No matter which part of your body you decide to target with a chemical peel, you should wear sunscreen diligently to avoid making dark spots worse and to prevent new spots from forming.

Before any chemical peel, whether it’s for the body or the face, our medical professionals like to conduct a full consultation with patients first. This is to ensure that your skin will not have any extreme or adverse reactions to the peel, and it allows us to determine how strong your treatment should be. While some patients have skin that can tolerate high percentages of chemical exfoliants, other patients have more sensitive skin.

Whatever your skin concern or skin needs, we’re here to help you on your journey to clearer, healthier skin. Request an appointment with us today!
